Dr. Allen is the son of a U.S. Navy Veteran. As such, he understands firsthand the personal sacrifices that veterans have made for the benefit of our country. Military service can entail participation in combat, separation from loved ones, personal and occupational stresses and the incurrence of physical injuries that cause life challenges long after separation from the military.
Due to military culture, which often discourages service members from seeking medical care after developing concerning medical symptoms or suffering an injury, many veterans were unable to seek treatment and fully receive complete medical diagnoses while in-service. Because of this, Dr. Allen is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical evaluations and thorough medical opinions in the post-military stage of their lives.
Experience
Dr. Robert J. Allen, Jr. is a medical doctor who is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry) and is fellowship trained in Pain Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine. He completed residency and fellowship training at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
He has worked in private practice since 2012 and since 2016 has performed thousands of veteran compensation and pension (C&P) benefit examinations as an independent medical examiner retained by companies such as VES, QTC, and Optum Serve (formerly LHI).
Over the course of his medical career, Dr. Allen has worked at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia and the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He understands the overwhelming bureaucracy that veterans face when navigating the VA compensation and pension benefits system.
He is thoroughly familiar with all phases of the VA C&P claims process and offers his insight and guidance on general medicine claims (Ear/Nose/Throat, pulmonary, cardiac, gastrointestinal, urological, dermatological, cancer, diabetes, thyroid, nerve injuries, etc.), musculoskeletal claims (neck, spine, shoulders, elbow/wrist/hand, hip, knee, ankle, foot), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Dr. Allen takes great pleasure in articulating veterans’ claims with precision and attention to detail, fully aware of the importance of thoroughly reviewing the record and citing the latest scientific authorities. This is crucially important when writing detailed nexus letters. He takes pride in his work and is honored to serve those who have served this country.
Dr. Allen works directly with attorneys, VSOs, claims agents, and with veterans.
Frequently, C&P (Compensation and Pension) examiners do not thoroughly review records, complete an optimal examination, or even listen to veteran's full story and medical history. Dr. Allen has helped many veterans experience success because he focuses on every detail of each veteran's claim to develop cogent, comprehensive reports that make it clear to the VA why a veteran's claim is valid. Dr. Allen also places emphasis on clearly presenting the veteran's level of impairment so that veterans receive the ratings that they deserve.
As Dr. Allen is a former C&P examiner, he is well-versed in the correct VA terminology medico-legal language.
It is never too late to file a claim!
