What is a Compensatory Injury?
A compensatory injury occurs when one injury leads to another. When our bodies are injured, various muscles, tendons, and bones compensate by taking over additional functions to allow us to continue movement. Our bodies try to “compensate” for an injury because bones, muscles and tissue are all connected and are designed to work together. The part(s) of the body compensating for a damaged part of the body becomes damaged itself due to increased wear and tear. For example, a veteran can claim:
